The Local Area

Locality

BarnTrees is situated between the villages of Clipston & Great Oxendon.

From the site you can walk clockwise around the edge of the next field to meet a footpath that leads either directly to the playing fields, a fabulous spot for all ages and dogs, with tennis courts and picnic spots, or on to the local pub! The Bulls Head will provide a friendly welcome and provides fantastic Pub food.

Within the village we are also very lucky to have the brilliant Bakeshed open Fridays & Saturdays 9am – 7pm & Sundays 10am – 6pm. (Situated opposite the village school, down a driveway on the left)

This is an honesty shop, on a first come first served basis with artisan breads and delicious homemade bakes, Get in quick before the weekend rush!

Market Harborough

Barntrees is approximately 7 miles from the idyllic Market town of Market Harborough, and all conveniences can be sourced there, in addition to some excellent independent boutiques and a fine selection of shopping as well as a great variety of quality eateries. 


We also have two fantastic farm shops on our doorstops, both with excellent cafes.

Brampton Valley Way

Within easy reach of our glamping site, the Brampton Valley Way is a 14‑mile (23 km) “linear park” transformed from the old Northampton–Market Harborough railway line. Ideal for walkers, cyclists, and even horse riders, this flat, traffic‑free trail winds through open countryside, charming villages, and alongside heritage attractions—such as Kelmarsh Hall, Brixworth Country Park, and the Northampton & Lamport Railway.

 

One of the highlight experiences is passing through two unlit former railway tunnels (Kelmarsh and Oxendon), each nearly 500 m long. For those less keen on tunnels, there are alternate routes that bypass them. With picnic spots, benches, free parking at several trailheads, dog‑friendly paths, and plenty of wildlife, it’s perfect for a family day out or a leisurely adventure after a cosy night under the stars.

Foxton Locks

Foxton Locks in Leicestershire is a stunning flight of ten canal locks on the Grand Union Canal, the longest and steepest staircase lock system in the UK.

 

A must-visit for history and nature lovers, it offers scenic walks, a museum, and charming canal-side pubs where you can watch narrowboats navigate the locks. Perfect for a relaxing day out in the countryside!

Mini Meadows

Mini Meadows Farm is a lovely children’s farm park on the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire border.

 

Nestled in 12 acres of rolling countryside in the village of Welford, Mini Meadows Farm provides a fun, educational and great value family day out for adults and children alike, whatever the weather.

Naseby Battlefield

Step Back in Time at Naseby Battlefield.


Just down the road from our glamping site, the historic Naseby Battlefield marks the site of one of the most important battles in English history. Fought in 1645 during the English Civil War, this decisive conflict saw the Parliamentarian army, led by Oliver Cromwell and Sir Thomas Fairfax, defeat King Charles I’s Royalist forces—shaping the future of British democracy. Today, the battlefield offers a fascinating glimpse into the past, with interpretation panels, memorials, and walking trails that bring the story to life.

Perfect for a day out in the countryside, visitors can enjoy peaceful, scenic walks through the open fields while discovering the key moments of the battle along the way. Pitsford Reservoir

Pitsford Water is a stunning reservoir and nature park in Northamptonshire, perfect for walking, cycling, birdwatching, fishing, sailing, and watersports along its hard‑surfaced seven‑mile perimeter track.

 

As a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, the northern section is a rich wildlife reserve—home to wintering wildfowl, breeding birds, rare plants, and mammals—accessible by permit.

 

Amenities include a Fishing Lodge with cafe/snacks, tackle shop, boat hire, and links to Brixworth Country Park’s licensed Willow Tree Café, playground, and bike hire. Whether you’re out for a scenic loop (common routes are 7–11 km) or enjoying watersports with the local sailing club, it’s a tranquil and family‑friendly outdoor escape .

Rutland Water

Just a 30 minute drive from our glamping site, Rutland Water is one of the UK’s most picturesque reservoirs—perfect for outdoor lovers.

 

Explore miles of scenic walking and cycling trails, enjoy water sports like sailing and paddleboarding, or relax with a spot of birdwatching at the nature reserve. With family-friendly activities, such as the inflatable aqua park, a beach area, and cosy lakeside cafés, Rutland Water offers the ideal day out in nature.

Stately Homes

The area around Clipston is rich in history and heritage, with a number of beautiful stately homes just a short drive away. Explore the grandeur of Althorp, the childhood home of Princess Diana, wander the elegant gardens of Kelmarsh Hall, admire the Georgian charm of Cottesbrooke Hall, or discover the historic splendour of Holdenby House. As well as the bustling town of Market Harborough, the local area is home to a selection of charming market towns well worth a visit. Uppingham, with its quaint streets and antique shops, Oakham, known for its historic castle and vibrant market square, and Stamford, often described as one of England’s prettiest towns with its Georgian architecture and riverside walks, all offer a warm welcome and plenty to explore. Each town has its own character, packed with independent shops, cosy cafés, and a relaxed pace, ideal for a day of browsing and local discovery during your glamping getaway.

The Waterfront at Union Wharf in Market Harborough is a beautifully converted wharfside restaurant and bar offering waterside dining with views of the canal basin and narrowboats  . It serves lunch, dinner, drinks, tea and coffee throughout the week, plus a popular Sunday carvery and a rooftop Gin & Fizz Bar on select evenings  . The closest local shop for general goods is The One Stop in Naseby.


For groceries, you have the fantastic array of local meats and where possible fruits and vegetables at the award winning Farndon Fields Farmshop, definitely worth a visit, 
Market haborough has a good selection of all of most of the well known supermarkets.
